Homes Listed for sale in Madison County
January 29, 2020 | Joseph Carter
The number of homes listed for sale in Madison County, Ala., home of fast-growing Huntsville, has dropped below 1,000 for the first time in 22 years, real estate professionals said Monday.
The actual number of homes listed for sale is 988, a figure lower than the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) has reported since 1998, when it first started recording inventory data.
New construction is fighting to keep up with the county’s growth, according to the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors and ValleyMLS.com. And with thousands of new jobs expected this decade, the situation is getting a lot of attention.
“We must redouble our efforts across all organizations and levels of government to ensure we have the housing available for the thousands of new residents expected over the next five years,” new Realtors President Sha Jarboe said in a statement. “Foremost, that requires attracting the skilled workers necessary for our local construction companies to keep up with demand.”
If you own a home in Madison County, “there has never been a better time to sell,” Valley MLS.com Chair Cindi Peters-Tanner said. “If you were on the fence, these numbers should tell you that now is the time to find a realtor and list your property.”
Huntsville has seen a series of large job announcements including Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, a joint automobile production facility, its supplier companies and the relocation of several thousand FBI workers to a new “HQ2” regional agency headquarters on Redstone Arsenal.
